How does keg delivery work?

Pick your keg, add a pump or jockey box if you need one, and check out. We deliver the keg, the tap and the ice-cold setup together, so nothing is missing on the day. Order by 9 a.m. for same-day delivery in San Francisco (Tuesday to Saturday). The East Bay runs on Tuesdays, the Peninsula and South Bay on Wednesdays, and Marin by arrangement. There are no deliveries on Sundays or Mondays. Zones, minimums and fees are on the delivery information page and confirmed at checkout.

What keg size do I need?

A 1/2 barrel is the classic full-size keg — roughly 165 twelve-ounce pours. A 1/6 barrel ('sixtel') is about 55, and a 5-gallon keg lands around 53. Not sure? Use the keg calculator to size it against your headcount, or read how many beers are in a keg.

What does a keg cost, and what's the deposit?

Keg prices vary by brand and size — browse all kegs for live pricing. Every keg carries a refundable $50 deposit, added at checkout and returned to you when the empty comes back. Gas tanks carry a refundable deposit too. Nothing is a hidden fee: the deposit is money you get back.

Can I get a keg tapped and poured outdoors?

Yes — that's what a jockey box is for. It runs the beer through ice-cold coils so the pour stays cold even when the keg can't be refrigerated. Indoors, with the keg on ice or in a fridge, a $25 keg pump is all you need.

A note on stairs

A full half-barrel weighs about 160 lb. Our drivers can manage one flight of stairs, up to 12 steps. If your place needs more than that, tell us when you order and we'll work out the drop with you rather than surprise you on the day.

Kegs for offices, weddings and events

Running a bar for a wedding or a party? Add a jockey box and we'll size the kegs to your headcount. For offices and recurring taps, see corporate keg delivery and the office beverage program — we handle the rotation, the gas and the line cleaning so nobody on your team has to. New to kegs? The keg guide walks through tapping and returning one.

Frequently asked questions

Do you deliver kegs in San Francisco?

Yes. We deliver beer, wine, cider, cold brew coffee and kombucha kegs across San Francisco, same-day when you order by 9 a.m., Tuesday to Saturday. The East Bay runs on Tuesdays, the Peninsula and South Bay on Wednesdays, and Marin by arrangement. There are no deliveries on Sundays or Mondays.

Does the keg come with a tap?

A tap is a separate rental, so you only pay for what you need. A keg pump rents for $25 and suits a keg kept cold indoors. A jockey box - $50 single, $150 double - keeps the pour cold outdoors. Add either to your order and we deliver it with the keg.

How much beer is in a keg?

A half barrel pours roughly 165 twelve-ounce beers. A sixth barrel, or sixtel, is about 55, and a 5-gallon keg is around 53. Use our keg calculator to size a keg against your headcount.

Is there a deposit on a keg?

Yes - a refundable $50 deposit per keg. It is added at checkout and returned to you when the empty keg comes back, so it is money you get back, not a fee.

Can you carry a keg up stairs?

Our drivers can manage one flight of stairs, up to 12 steps - a full half barrel weighs about 160 lb. If your venue needs more than that, tell us when you order and we will plan the drop with you.

Can I pick a keg up instead of having it delivered?

Yes. Free in-store pickup at 5084 Mission St is always available with no minimum. Call (415) 587-5000 and we will have it ready at the counter.
